What makes aepos. solutions special is that there are two operational options to be selected from. The focus lies on the order-based process.

order-based process with specific process chains

The order-based approach offers the advantage of complete control. All of the information about a given job is available at all times. This makes processes transparent.

Orders can be generated manually or automatically. As for the automatic generation Jobtickets or REST-API can be applied.

Thanks to the order-based approach it is possible to make automation processes more individual. This is facilitated by the information about the job.

For example:

  • Paper classes (important for controlling colour management)
  • Specified colour scheme (CMYK/SPOT etc.)
  • Specified page sizes
  • Number of pages

This information can be used in order to make processes dynamic.

The job controls the processes.

data-based process (classic via Hotfolder)

The Hotfolder-based process chains are used to handle very individualised work preparations for PDFs (classical tasks for tools).

For example:

  • Generating a multi-page-PDF from single-page-PDFs
  • Splitt multi-page-PDFs
  • Re-arranging trim boxes
  • Splitt double-sided PDFs, etc.

aepos.Commercial = aepos.Digital + RIP (1 Xitron Navigator) + CIP 3 + Booklet Generator + Web Growth-Correction + RIP Loadbalancer + Kodak EVO-RIP Interface + Black Plate Switch-Simulation

Along with the process chains of aepos.Basic >>, aepos.Commercial includes the following additional specific functions:

1st
RIP

Xitron Navigator Tiff – is a Harlequin-based RIP-software for processing PDF-Files. Various image formats can be generated (1 Bit Tiff). The RIP is completely controlled by aepos.

2nd
CIP3

Machine-specific CIP3 data can be generated and sent from the PDF-print forms.

3rd
Booklet-Generator

Based on the existing pages, so-called “booklets” can be generated. They are based on the single pages of a product. If the RIP is used as a softproof generator, their content is final. The “booklets” then exist in PDF form and can be printed out on any printer.

4th
Web Growth-Correction

Based on job data, scaling (Tiff-data) can be carried out for each printing machine and paper class for each colour. In-house, individual settings can be saved.

5th
RIP-Loadbalancing

This supports the option of integrating additional Harlequin RIPs into the system. The RIP load balancer automatically distributes the RIP-jobs and balances the settings. These RIPs can be installed on any number of computers.

Lewald & Partner is a member of the Harlequin Partner Netzwork >> which is initiate by Global Graphics >> .

6th
Kodak EVO-RIP Interface

There is the option of integrating the Kodak EVO RIP. This is realised via hotfolders and an XML back channel.

7th
Black Plate Switch-Simulation

In the case of jobs that consist of multiple versions (print-outs), there is the option of simulating in advance whether potential black-plate changes (only one black-plate is generated for the next version) will function properly. This is done based on ripped pages (NOT based on PDF-layers). Inside the aepos. Job Management system one can define which versions should switch to which.

aepos. solutions are delivered as Hyper-V Images. The images contain the entire ready-to-run solution with the necessary operating system.

For the images to be useable the client must provide hardware capable of running it. The following system requirements must be met:

2 x Hyper-V based Host with 10 Cores each

64 GB RAM per Host

2 X 1GBit Netzwerk Card per Host

2 x 256 GB System Disk (SSD) mirrored

1 TB Data Disc HDD per Host

Field

Production of newspapers I inserts

Task

Production of catalogues, inserts (versions) incl. imprinting in web offset printing
Classical offset production
Digital imprinting Systems

Inserts with imprints: Clients supply a variety of single pages.

Products are created from these single pages and then appear in different version. A portion of the pages is identical inside the versions.

Feedback

Peter Renz, Prepress Manager at Gotha Druck explains why the printing company could not do without, aepos.Commercial in the preprint phase:

“For us as a web offset printing company with a fully-integrated preliminary stage, it was very important that we introduce further automation to our pre-press production processes, achieve greater production security, without completely changing our IT-system and procedure in the bargain. Most of our jobs are periodic and have to be customised for each region. We looked for a solution that combines such jobs automatically and at the same time allows flexible, individual processing. With aepos. we have found the fitting application and also a great team of programmers who answer our questions quickly and implement our requests with great dedication. This is customer service par excellence.“

Implementation

Page order maps are generated using Excel. These are supplied in part by the client and converted into the standardised format at Gotha. Should the client not provide any lists, the page order sequencing will be handled by the responsible technician.

The Excel-list will be uploaded as a CSV-file into an aepos. Hotfolder. A Job is then built in the aepos. system. Page lists (RunList) are also transferred with the Excel-list. The file also includes the file control information on topics such as the desired print colour space, scaling and other matters.

The PDF-files are uploaded to the aepos. Hotfolder. The system assigns the data to the matching job. The important thing is that those pages that are identical in multiple print-outs (versions) are not repeatedly processed.

Identical pages are only repeatedly displayed when the data are published (imposition or publishing in the folder).

Since the product pages are linked with the print jobs, the print product needed will be updated in a general update.
